Glyn Elwyn Explores “True” Shared Decision-Making With Reinertsen Audience

In a talk sprinkled with references to a favorite Minnesota icon, Garrison Keillor, Prof. Glyn Elwyn, MD, PhD, explored the nature of “true” shared decision-making with a packed audience of Minnesota health care providers, plan administrators and others at the annual James L. Reinertsen Lecture on Thursday, October 30, 2014. Emphasizing that disseminating decision aids is not equivalent to shared decision-making (SDM), Prof. Elwyn argued that SDM “…is the heart of the job, not giving the job away.”
